Status: Removed, no remains, but the tree is still in situ and prominent

Quote from the artist: “I chose a site which had a tangible lime tree growing out of sloping ground… it seemed to form an ellipse which spun around the lime to include a small oak… branches of a previously felled tree had fallen into marvellously loose plait which formed part of the ellipse on the south side. This suggested to me that I make a wood line which would exaggerate the spiral and invite the public into this space.

“The line had to be delicate so that it would not form a visual barrier but allow the sculpture to be part of the surrounding forest to which it belonged. The shape grew in height from the west to the north. I wanted to emphasise the way the in which the ground seemed to thicken and twist around the lime.”

“My sculpture is intended to direct attention to the beauty of the small area of the forest, without conflicting with it is an aggressive way.” – 1984 Map

Listed as ‘Untitled’ on the 1984 map. This was a curve created out of small branches of wood, either stripped bare or painted white (hard to tell with a black and white photograph). The wood was then positioned in a curve with the larger pieces spiralling around the Lime tree and smaller pieces perpendicular radiating out from the tree.  It was sited just beside the Silurian Way north of the Visitor Centre.

The lime tree is still very prominent, as seen in the centre of this photograph. The sculpture isn’t listed on the 1988 map so must have gone by then.
