Positioned on the roadside at the fork in the road by Grizedale Tarn. It consists of five triangular shapes carved out of a flat rock face painted black and stuck back on next to the hole. Clearly inspired by the other triangular markings on the exposed rock, natural or man made from years prior I’m not sure. The protruding triangles have long since fallen off. (I assume it was rock stuck on, though it could be wooden triangles carved to match, I never saw the artwork intact).

When I first walked past this area in 1999 or so the triangles weren’t in place, that or this sculpture is so innocuous I didn’t see it. I did look for Natural Forces at the time, as it was on my map, but having not seen a photograph of it I didn’t know what I was looking for.

You can just make out where the protruding rocks were attached in the photograph above, the rock being a lighter colour. The carved triangle indents still remain on the exposed rock and will do so forever until possibly covered by foliage.
