John Mackie Seat
“This seat commemorates John Mackie, erstwhile Chairman of the Forestry Commission and a true friend of Grizedale. A huge slab of oak is contained within an elegant curve of a root/branch-like form. It grows out of the ground in a curve that forms an arm which protectively sweeps over ones head.” Meg Falconer, craftswomen at Grizedale, 1996.
Positioned right at the start of the trail, with a view over the fields to the trees beyond. The arch over the seat eventually rotted away and was removed, leaving the seat just as a base for a few years, but has since gone itself sometime after 2006.
