Quote from Artist – “Like the slate boulders emerging from ground the Ammonite twists and turns emerging from the topsoil the shape of the piece encourages interaction, within it children can run through the hollow structure while adults can rest and enjoy the view… As one circles the piece the shapes twist and change. Seated in a circular arrangement the group is invited to relax and rest within its sheltered walls.”

Sited at Farra Grain, at the point the Silurian way leaves the large forest trail and heads off through the trees towards Carron Crag. It was a large wooden seat made out of upright larch logs inside a spiral shape, reminiscent of an ammonite shell. This archive image shows it from above, which is a great view, but one that wasn’t possible to walkers at the time (pre drones). It was removed completely in 2004.
