Robert Koenig – Low Bowkerstead – 1982
Material: Wood
Trail: Silurian Way
Theme: Nature
Form: Abstract
Size: Trophies – 8 Feet Long
Maps Featured on: ?, 1984 – 1989
Status: Removed, no remains
Quote from the artist: “My plan was to find a site with fallen trees nearby. Most of the sculptures were thus created & sited close to the source of the original timber. The first three sculptures: Triangular Suspension, Trophies & Multiple Arch, were grouped together on a plateau halfway up a long, gradual slope. They overlook two valleys on either side & a stream. They are each separate sculptures but also work together as evidence of some past activity or remnants of a once occupied site”.
Triangular Suspension
Formed from two 8 feet tall, oak branches and a crossbeam with smaller attachments.
Trophies
Trophies was the second sculpture, created in a similar way to Triangular Suspension but in a rectangular shape. Four abstract shapes form the ‘Trophies’ hanging from the middle.
Multiple Arches
Multiple Arch was the last of the three sculptures on the plateau, Koenig actually created The Guardians before finishing this piece. Koenig explains how it is almost like encountering “Architectural, remnants of some hut or building… with things suspended and others buried in the ground.”
All three sculptures were listed on the 1988 map, though none were on the 1991 map. As all three went at once I assume they were all removed completely around 1990.
