This sculpture was made using wood from trees from Grizedale. The wood was taken away and steam bent into curves. Ten pieces make up the artwork designed to replicate the ten highest mountains of the Lake District. Originally part of Lakes Alive annual arts weekend festival in Kendal in September 2017. It then spent time at Brockhole Visitor Centre on the banks of Windermere, before settling into position in the Grizedale Visitor Centre walled garden. It has now moved again (2021) to the end of the Ridding Wood Trail.
Made up of several different parts it was positioned in a straight line at Lakes Alive. It now forms a spiral shape, as seen above. The work is interactive, visitors can walk along the wood at the bottom and read the names of local places carved into it.
In 2018 it also formed part of Lakes Ignite, a year long celebration of the Lake District becoming a Unesco World Heritage Site. Six artworks were made and dotted around the Lakes. Each artwork had interpretation, here is the text for Mountains we Made:

At some point in 2021 the sculpture was moved to the end of the Ridding Wood, where it looked a lot more in keeping. Unfortunately the sculpture has now been removed. Sometime between Aug 22 and March 24 the sculpture was removed by the artist due to damage from being climbed on.
