Colin Rose – Grizedale Moor – March 2023

Theme: Enclosure

Form: Circle

Status: Newly Installed

A sculpture created from Ting, now no longer standing vertical, the metal ring now lays horizontally, suspended off the ground by rocks carved with channels to hold the metal. This is the first instance I can think of one sculpture being formed into a another new sculpture (with the artists permission at least).

The ring itself is set low down on a flat area of land, separated from the path by a raised bank. This makes it initially hard to spot from the Moor Top path. Not only is it already hard to spot but the ground surrounding the ring has been planted up with willow trees which will grow to quickly hide the sculpture.

The ring isn’t a perfect circle there is a hole in one side (ironically the opposite side of the circle to the path…) but you can step over the metal and into the centre anyway.

To get down to the sculpture there is a small footpath beside a stream. As a walker unfortunately you will have to be careful as mountain bikers ride down at dangerous speeds on this footpath, clearly the bespoke cycle track a few yards away isn’t enough for them.
