Quote from the artist – “My work at Grizedale could be loosely encapsulated under the title of ‘women and water’. So Grizedale’s streams and waterfalls as well as the torrential summer weather was perfect.

Nine forest workers helped me move my first sculpture onto its site down a steep bank and over a stream to one of the islands above force falls. The huge oak tree I carved was said to be only fit for fire wood, but it proved excellent for my purpose. Sculpted from heart of oak, she reclines on the island refuge.”

A wooden sculpture of a reclining lady, her head at the left hand side of the photographs above. The water at this point of the stream is normally too deep to cross. I’ve been over twice. Every other time I’ve been the water is high and she remains inaccessible. Below photos from 2021 where a lack of rain made crossing possible. The shape of the woman clearly seen below.
