“Our latest artwork being installed on the Millwood Trail today. These pieces were created in a series of workshops with young people from John Ruskin School, Windermere School and Kirkby Kendal school. The students created poems in response to climate change. Artist Danny Clahane selected a sentence from each poem which he carved onto the stones. This project was kindly sponsored by Burlington Stone and L&W Wilson ltd in partnership with Great Place Lakes and Dales.” – Grizedale Sculpture Instagram

“The tree stood tall and proud, giving nature a calm sound” – Rylan Stephensen

“Wind whistles, trees bow, things are happening I don’t know” – Leena Maddock

“Birds soar over the winter oak tree, as a heart of hope surrounds the world” – Year 7 John Ruskin School

The three poetry stones are sited on the newly exposed Millwood Trail. They are beautiful large pieces of slate with subtle by skilful carvings and text by Clahane.

When they were new they looked incongruous with the surroundings but they have since bedded in and are looking a lot better. The Millwood Trail is being replanted, this cover will help bed the sculptures in further I think.
