One of 11 Tree Poles dotted all over the UK in celebration of the 2017 Tree Charter from the Woodland Trust. 10 each representing one of the key points of the tree charter, the 11th pole being the champion pole representing the entire legacy.
This 15ft pole at Grizedale features words that spiral around the pole, relating to the charter promise to ‘Recover health, hope & wellbeing with the help of trees’.
The poem: “Wander here look up and see branches high canopy green, wonder now at things unseen: how trees grow and slow waters flow, keep air clean and hold earth’s health in wood and leaves” by Harriet Fraser
Originally meant to be placed at the end of the Ridding Wood trail, but due to the huge concrete base it wasn’t feasible to get it into such a high location. Instead it has been sited near Kennels Car Park, in amongst the tallest trees in the forest. The base in the shape of flower petals doubles as a seat.

After Storm Arwen the Millwood Trail lost a lot of it’s large specimen trees. The tree charter pole luckily avoided damage but it’s location has irreparably changed.
