Quote from the artist – ”Cherubic wings are spread in Grizedale Forest, 27 metres long and 11 metres high. They consist of nine pairs of wings made of timber and branches, each between three and eight metres long. The timbers were installed where they had been felled by savage storms, the branches, fixed with glue, expressing tense rhythm. The dynamics and geometrical shapes of the wings are crearly demonstrative of a moment in time when they were locked in a battle with the savage gales which brought them down.“ – 1990 – exhibition catalogue
This artwork was sited in an old quarry where Picket Fence now stands. Multiple windblown trees, their branches cut to resemble wings. It was last listed on the 1993 map, which makes sense as Temple of the Forest was built in this exact location in 1994.
