These were four terracotta dogs all mid howl. Panwar created them in response to Grizedale at the Royal College of Art. Sited on the Ridding Wood Trail, this was commissioned with money from the Prudential Award won in 1990 to create an accessible trail. The archive described them as being ‘life size’. I’m not sure how long it lasted it isn’t listed on the 1991 map.
Listed in the archive this photo (below) along with the name Cry Dogs. I assume it’s part of the same sculpture just under a different name.
Sculpture in other Artworks
Grizedale 4 – 1991 – Panayiotis Kalorkoti
Despite not lasting long, the sculpture did feature in one of Kalorkoti’s paintings. Further examples of other sculptures used in Kalorkoti’s work can be seen in the Gallery in the Forest Page.
