Quote from the Artist: “As we move through the woods unseen, birds and animals watch us. Early one morning, the ground covered in frost, Ash leaves fell all around me as I carved my stone. I picked one up and drew it on the stones side. The sculpture beckons one silently to the place where I feel a sense of calm.”

“The most important aspect in working at Grizedale is that the sculpture is required to be site specific. I actually carved my stone in-situ, as well, which created an even stronger rapport with my chosen place. One has to adapt to working in Grizedale and it was a wonderful experience.”

Just up the path at Low Bowkerstead, look up into the field and you can see this owl carved out of stone and sitting on a plinth. It hasn’t changed over its time in the forest except that it now features a lot more moss than before. Aside from the ash leaf on the front, the back has an oak leaf and the side features a compass.
